Friday: Brownie 1

After opening ceremonies, we walked up to camp.  Our first activity at camp was a scavenger hunt that the overnighters prepared for us.  We then worked on a craft with the Cadettes.  We made beads out of magazines and also used plastic beads in our necklaces or bracelets.

We had lunch, and then the Juniors taught us things to earn their Junior Aide badge.  We had 4 stations, and learned 2 songs, 1 game and did a craft, making "cootie catchers".

We had popsicles for our afternoon snack and then we got out the buckets and sponges for our water play.  After we dried off, we had an all camp friendship circle to end our week.

Here's a picture of our girls from today.

The patches (Letterboxing, DayCamp patch) were put inside the letterboxing baggie, and the pottery was sent home today.

Achievements for this week for Brownie 1:
Letterboxing: earned badge, it's in the baggie.
Pottery: In our daily visits to Ms Sarah, we've earned all but step 4 (make an art piece) of this badge.
Brownie Quest Journey: Earned the Discover and Connect Keys.

We had a great time, and we hope your girls did too.  We had lots of help from our aides Ra'coon, Clover and M&M.  We hope to see your girls next year at Day Camp!

June 28 Friday Announcements

Wow! Where did the week go!

Going to be a warm day! Wear something ok to get wet in.

Today everything will go home with your camper that they created this week.  Some made pinch pots that are coming out of the kiln as I type. Others made sculpey turtle pedants, letterboxing items. And everyone will have memories to last a lifetime.

Thank you for entrusting us with your girls for the week. It has been a pleasure.

Thursday: Brownie 1

We started the day as usual with a flag ceremony.

There are 2 cooties in this picture.
Can you find them?

Then, we went to see Mary Jo Huff who told us some stories.

Doing a chicken dance of sorts

We made a few of the parts of a big mosaic that everyone from camp is working on.

Collage!

Working hard

Later in the morning, we finished up our letter boxing badge.

Adding one last stamp to their books

In the afternoon, we helped a graduated scout finish her gold award by writing what we like about ourselves on a piece of paper, which she will turn into a video.
What I like about me...

Then, we did some games with the older girls and made some lanterns out of cans (big accomplishment as some girls had never used hammers before!).

Don't forget, tomorrow is water day!

A fun game

If I had a hammer...
I'd hammer in the morning...
I'd hammer in the evening...
All over this land!

Wednesday: Brownie 1

Today we started the day with some songs after we hiked up to the camp.

(as you can see from the video below of one of the camp songs, our helpers Racoon, Clover, and Maddison are pretty awesome and know how to have a good time with our girls!)

We did our tie-dye in the morning (sorry, forgot to take pics!).  We sent home a sheet with the finishing information on it.  You should not start the finishing of the tie-dye until after the 24 hours is elapsed. It can be completed later, but it needs at least 24 hours for the dye to set.

We did more letterboxing work today, finding boxes in groups of 2.

We were visited by a friend from Wesselman Nature Center,  who brought 3 turtles: one snapping turtle and a male and female box turtle.  We now know how to tell the difference between a male and female box turtle.  We hiked down to campus after that, so that we could be close to our shelter in case storms came up.

Petting the turtle

The Junior girls taught us about fire, with our afternoon snack of edible fire.  We learned a game from another Junior unit, "Heads Up Seven Up".  It was soon time to head to pickup.  Another busy day.
Please make sure your daughter has a full water bottle with her each day.  It doesn't have to be the one we supplied, but she should have a full water bottle. Tomorrow is spirit day, so wear a shirt for your favorite team!

Getting a feel for college... hahaha!
